Case Studies

Espenshade Nonprofit Consulting has worked with many nonprofit organizations to successfully implement Salesforce Non-Profit Success Pack (NPSP), enabling them to more effectively fulfill their mission.

A social service agency grows its vital mission

A social service agency in Trenton, NJ decided to replace its long-time eTapestry database with NPSP. Over 24,000 contacts and several decades’ worth of donation history needed to be migrated into the new platform. The agency engaged Espenshade Consulting to:

  • Finalize and document current and future system requirements
  • Create a Request for Proposal, and select a migration partner
  • Serve as client advocate and liaison with the migration partner through the project
  • Ensure that all project goals were met

With our help, the agency uses NPSP for:

  • Tracking contacts and donations
  • Integrating online single and recurring donations (using iATS Brickwork);
  • Integrating outgoing mass emails (using Constant Contact and SyncApps Cazoomi)
  • Managing grant applications and reporting requirements
  • Managing volunteers (using Volunteers for Salesforce)
  • Providing senior management and Board committees with dashboard-level views of fundraising and supporter engagement

The migration project successfully concluded on time, and we continue to provide support and guidance.

An open space preservation organization strengthens its outreach

An open space preservation organization in Bucks County, PA, run entirely by volunteers, had been using several spreadsheets to track over 17 years’ worth of donations, memberships, and mailing lists. They engaged Espenshade Consulting to:

  • Help define their needs and determine that NPSP would be an effective solution
  • Set up a trial of NPSP, demonstrate how it could be used, and manage the process of creating the permanent account
  • Collect all of the spreadsheet-based information, reformat, and import it
  • Provide training, documentation, and ongoing support

An organization consolidates its membership, contact and donation information, and grant management

A Philadelphia-based religious organization needed to replace their Raiser’s Edge database of over 25,000 contacts and 20-year donation history. They chose NPSP, a migration partner, and Espenshade Consulting to:

  • Provide overall project management for the effort
  • Act as a liaison and client advocate to clarify and prioritize requirements and to keep track of milestones and deliverables
  • Migrate email from standalone Constant Contact to integrated Pardot/Salesforce
  • Identify new ways to utilize NPSP to meet their goals

We continue to support the organization with:

  • Ongoing NPSP system administration
  • New dashboards, reports, and views
  • Customization and adaptation as needs change

A historic site updates its connection to supporters

As part of a strategic upgrade of their operations, a small New Jersey historic site engaged Espenshade Consulting to convert its address and donation lists into Salesforce NPSP. The results hold information about their 200 supporters and several years of giving history, which they now use for postal and email information and appeals.

A religious organization centralizes membership directory information

A California-based religious organization wanted to create a centralized information directory, containing contact information from a large number of individual congregations. They decided that NPSP would help improve communication via phone, email, and distribution lists to all members of the community. Espenshade Consulting helped them by:

  • Working with them on system requirements
  • Creating a prototype to ensure that their requirements would be met
  • Reformatting existing information, then importing it into NPSP
  • Creating a process to export relevant information to create directories
